Center for Specialty Announced as a Finalist for the Bernard A. Kershner Award

Center for Specialty Surgery (CSS) has been named a finalist for the prestigious Bernard A. Kershner Innovations in Quality Improvement Award through the National Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) Institute for Quality Improvement in the Surgical/Procedural category. Each of the three finalists will submit a poster describing their fully developed and implemented quality improvement study and will be recognized at the March 2020 Achieving Accreditation seminar, in Miami, Florida. CSS’ chosen topic was based on its Total Joint Specialty Service and providing an organizational infrastructure that supports excellence in staff training, planning, and preparation of total joint cases. We wish the team continued success during this process!

The Kershner Award recognizes top-quality improvement studies conducted by AAAHC-accredited organizations that successfully implemented meaningful changes in their operations to boost quality of care, patient safety, and overall efficiency in the areas of primary care and surgical/procedural care. The award is honor of Bernard A. Kershner, a pioneer in the field of ambulatory health care and distinguished past Chair of the AAAHC Institute Board of Trustees. A panel of experts identify three finalists in each area to then present their quality improvement study during the annual conference where attendees have the opportunity to cast ballots for their favorite study.

About Center for Specialty Surgery (CSS):

Center for Specialty Surgery first opened the doors in November of 2003 by the physician owners of Orthopedic + Fracture Specialists who already had a long and rich history in the local community. The physicians felt strongly about providing a patient-centered surgical experience that focused on overall efficiencies and where changes could be made and implemented in a timely fashion. In 2009, Providence Health and Services became joint-venture partners, allowing the door to open to treat even more patients at the surgery center. This collaboration allowed CSS to focus on shared goals to strengthen the doctor-patient relationships, to provide a patient-friendly experience resulting in better patient outcomes.
